A short 2-hour session in which the disease is explained in-depth, in an
interesting and informative way. The correct use of an inhaler is taught during
this practical workshop. This is a valuable way to learn more about the subject
for work or in school.

Ø Defining asthma; anatomy of the airway and breathing
Ø Causes of asthma; triggers and statistics
Ø Recognition of asthma
Ø Managing asthma; medication types used by asthmatics

Learning outcomes
This is a short, practical session in which individuals with responsibility of care for those with
asthma will become more aware of the disease and the emergency treatment of it. By the end of
the session participants will:
ü Understand asthma in its various forms and its effects on sufferers
ü Be able to manage an asthma attack and to help administer emergency medication where
necessary
ü Recognise the need for an emergency response
